Gentle escalation
Reminder emails on days 0, 3, 7 and 11. A missed check-in alone can never deliver anything — it only means we ask your guardians.
Your guardians are asked
Both of your trusted guardians are contacted. Each must separately confirm your passing. One person alone can never trigger a release.
The final hold
A last cooling-off period. If you log in — even once — everything stops instantly and we tell you exactly who confirmed what.

Is Athar a legal will?
No — and we say this clearly. Athar carries your messages, wishes and important information to your loved ones. A legally binding will must follow the laws of your country; we encourage you to have one, and your Athar vault is the perfect place to tell your family where it is.
What if I'm travelling, sick, or just miss a check-in?
Nothing happens. Reminder emails escalate gently over two weeks, then two guardians must both confirm, then a final 7-day hold applies. Any login at any stage cancels everything instantly. You can also pause check-ins before a long trip.
Can Athar staff read my messages?
Your content is encrypted at rest and in transit, and access is locked down internally. We are honest: this is strong server-side encryption, not yet full end-to-end encryption — true zero-knowledge storage is on our roadmap and we will never claim it before we ship it.
What happens if Athar shuts down?
Our founding promise: if Athar ever ceases operating, every user gets at least 90 days' notice and one-click export of everything they stored. Your trace is yours, not ours.
Is this islamically appropriate?
Writing your wasiyya and leaving guidance for your family is an emphasised sunnah. Athar is a vessel for it — your charitable wishes, your advice to your children, your debts and amanat, your goodbye. We are building with the guidance of Islamic scholars and will always name our advisors.
Is it really free? What does "beta" mean?
Yes. Athar is open and working today. Everyone who signs up before 31 December 2026 gets a full year of Premium free, counted from the day they join. After that, Premium is $24 a year — we'll email you before your free year ends, and you're never charged unless you choose to subscribe. "Beta" means we're still improving Athar with feedback from early users like you.
